Pets are an important part of our lives. They love us when no one else cares, they cuddle us, they let us feel kindess and we in turn offer them protection and love.
Recently Ollie my little rescue animal was taken by a fox. I loved Ollie like a little baby. I rescued him from horrible abusers, who were starving him to death. I took care of him, his brother, and his sister for 8 months. Ollie was special in that he was very handicapped from malnutrition, so I would carefully lift him in and out of the kiddie pool and always made sure the food was near him. The poor little guy could not walk at all. It was very sad to see. But he was happy in the sunshine playing in the sprinkler happily cooing and wagging his tail when in the water.
I know that may seem difficult to fathom, but he was my best friend, unfortunately this area is full of foxes and his brother Fran died in a similar way.
So why shouldn’t we mourn when our pets die? They have little souls too, and stay connected to us even in death.
Here’s a little prayer for our pets for when they pass away.
Lord, make me an instrument of Thy Peace. Where there is hatred, let me sow love. Where there is injury, pardon. Where there is doubt, faith. Where there is despair, hope. Where there is darkness, light. Where there is sadness, joy. O Divine Master, grant that I may not so much seek to be consoled as to console; To be understood, as to understand; To be loved, as to love. For it is in giving that we receive. It is in pardoning, that we are pardoned. And it is in dying that we are born to Eternal Life.
